Why K9
Understanding why dogs do what they do is the foundation of everything we do.
Before Nutmeg K9 began field service in 2015, our foundation was built through years of breeding and training herding dogs.
That instinct still matters today.
Dogs naturally observe, track, chase, and respond. That deeper instinct is tied to prey drive, pursuit, tracking, environmental response, and generations of working partnership alongside people.
Historically, dogs hunted because survival depended on it.
That reality remains central to terriers, hunting breeds, farm dogs, livestock protection, predator control, and vermin management.
Over time, people refined and directed these natural drives through selective breeding to create dogs capable of performing very specific tasks within the environments around them.
These dogs were not created by accident. They were developed over time to perform specific tasks humans could not easily do themselves.
That heritage still matters.The instincts that shape working dogs are deeply connected to survival, pursuit, food, protection, environmental awareness, and social structure.
Generations of careful selection refined specific instincts, traits, and working styles. That heritage still guides us.
We use these very instincts in the work we do today.
Our dogs are bred for the tasks we need help with on the farm and in pest and wildlife management.

Experience Behind the Work
More than four decades of breeding, training, competing with, and judging herding dogs has shaped how we read behavior, pressure, timing, and working instinct.
Experience as an animal control officer informs our calm, practical approach to public safety, animal behavior, and property concerns.
Fire and EMS service reinforced the importance of clear communication, situational awareness, and steady decision-making in stressful environments.
Our Origin
We began as a working farm and dog training facility, breeding and developing working dogs with real jobs to do.
As more dogs were placed for goose control work, it became clear that better training also required a deeper understanding of wildlife control from a nuisance wildlife operator's perspective. Lynnette became a licensed Wildlife Control Operator to better serve clients, understand the full property problem, and support the dogs' work in real-world conditions. That commitment to education continued through national certifications, expanding the standards behind the work.
As our work expanded into bed bug and rodent detection, our breeding program expanded as well to include Patterdale Terriers. The new Nutmeg K9 Solutions logo reflects that evolution: our foundation in goose dogs, and the terrier work now supporting detection and rodent services.
Over time, client work with the dogs continued to grow alongside the farm, training, and breeding program. Clients began saying, "your dogs have all the solutions." That is how the work became known as Nutmeg K9 Solutions.
Our dogs are working partners with instincts honed through training, experience, and real-world application.
Our foundation began with years of breeding, training, and field work in goose management. We have since expanded into nationally certified bed bug and rodent scent detection services.
Together, we build safer places for people, protect what matters, and support the balance between property, productivity, and the natural world.
